Fetish Carvings

Zuni - Colin Weeka

This is an Authentic Zuni Pueblo Fetish Carving.
Shown here, is a very collectible Picasso Marble Fetish by Zuni artist Colin Weeka.  This is a wonderful one piece Ram carving with a base.  The Ram is crouched as though its ready to spring into action, it has turquoise eyes and measures 2 1/2" long, 1 3/8" wide, 1 3/8" high.  American Indians have carved and used fetishes throughout history, a fetish is considered to have powers of the animal and even retains some spirit of the carver.  Zuni Indians are the most skilled of the Pueblo stone carvers , with some evidence of fetish use documented to Pre-Columbian times (prior to 1492).   Symbolism of the Ram are; power, force, drive, energy, virility, protection and fearlessness.  This Fetish is signed by the artist Colin Weeka, "C. Weeka"
